On 11th May ‘THE SPANISH HAM EXPERIENCE’ commenced in Southampton; an initiative carried out by Jose Sol (General manager of Spanish Ham Master)
With the idea of introducing the culture of Spanish ham to the United Kingdom, Spanish Ham Master created a course format for carving Spanish ham, divided mainly into three segments.
One of these segments consisted of a theoretical class, which provided the students with training on the various types of ham available, and their differences in respect of the breed of pig and the feed it has received.
The different areas of production and meat curing times were discussed and, at the end of our course, our students were ready to choose the type of ham they liked, and knew which to buy, making the correct choice every time. The students undergoing this course learned how to best buy, carve, store, care for, and (most importantly) get the maximum advantage and use out of their ham.
In the second segment, the students had the opportunity to carve three different types of Spanish ham (Jamon Serrano, Jamon Iberico de Cebo and Jamon Iberico de Bellota) in different sections of the ham, which allowed them to learn and perfect the technique necessary to carry out a complete carving of the ham.
Finally, in the third part of the course, we showed to the attendees how to best enjoy the Ham.
Thanks to the collaboration of Manzanilla en Rama “Esencia de la Andana” and especially to the UK Importer, Juan Manuel Gómez, the Spanish Ham Experience concluded with a educational talk on the benefits and the best paring, Manzanilla and Spanish Ham.
The attendees then had a guided tasting of Manzanilla en Rama and differents Hams.
At the end of the course, each student took home the ham that they had carved during the course, as well as a diploma for their participation and a small souvenir gift.
Spanish Ham Master will be carrying out these courses and presentations in various parts of the UK, including London.
